Operating Days and Hours
Great Steps Ahead serves a very large geographic area that covers approximately north to south 250 miles. The population is very sparse, 30,000, with two main centers of population, one in each county. Weather is unpredictable with major snow in the winter and very hot weather in the summer. Providing for the unique needs of the infant and preschool population presents formidable challenges.
Although a center based program has its advantages, i.e., parent communication with other parents, peer integration, greater accessibility to equipment and adaptive modifications, early intervention services have been mandated to be delivered in natural environments whenever possible. GSA will provide service delivery depending upon the availability and priorities of children and families.
We strive for simplicity, to provide services on the same day and hour each week. However, due to illness of staff or child, or other family commitments, days of service may vary or be rescheduled. Service hours and days may be changed to accommodate collaboration with other service providers and observations in other settings in which the child resides. Intervention services are provided on a one staff to one child basis.
